The Weekend Edit #18

Hello October! One of the most beautiful seasons of the year. I can’t wait to walk through crunchy leaves for four weeks, get wrapped up in blankets and drink bucket loads of hot chocolate. I know it’s all cliché stuff but the recent sunshine has got me so excited about it.

These last two weeks have been crazy busy at work so I’ve had hardly any energy to write blog posts or get as involved in social media (excluding Instagram, which I always seem to make time for!). It’s weeks like these where I dream about having a cleaner (even though it is a bit ludicrous for a one bed flat) and a life PA to do all the dull things that I don’t want to do at the weekend when I want to go out and enjoy myself. #Firstworldproblems ey?!

On the upside the glorious autumn weather has kept my spirits high and I’ve been lapping up all of the sunshine and seasonal beauty. I’m off to Lea Valley for white water rafting today! And I’ll be in Porto this time next week! It’s always good to focus on the positives when things feel stressful and I’ve been reminded recently just how lucky I am.

In the event of my dreams coming true and not having to do a bunch of life admin tasks at the weekend, here’s what I’d be getting up to in London.

London Literature Festival, 28 September – 12 October – As a former English student I always feel like I should spend more time enjoying a topic I spent three years studying and apply some of that knowledge. This looks like a festival to do just that. I like the idea of the cocktail hours the most, where you can enjoy a tipple and hear a tale or two.

Hever Castle – These last few months I’ve been looking at more and more places just outside central London. Hever Castle is my newest find and its huge maze was really what caught my attention. You can get to Hever from London Bridge in 40 mins and it’s about a 20 mins walk from the station (according to Google Maps).

Balls & Company – If your office filter is anything like mine you might not be able to see the menu in working hours, but I’ve taken a look at home and can confirm that it looks like a tasty offering of… meatballs. A variety of kinds to be specific. I could easily eat the whole menu.

Brickwood London – I was excited to discover this week that one of my favourite coffee houses has set up shop even closer to home in Tooting Market. You can be sure I’ll be down there on my next errand trip to the glamourous Wilkos.

Discount Suit Company – As I might not be able to enjoy London Cocktail Week next week (*sob*), I have been keeping an eye on intriguing cocktail bars and this one was the latest to grab my attention.

Poppy’s Top 10 Avocado on toast – Given that I’m not an egg fan, any list that offers a brunch option I can get on board with is going to go down well with me. (Egg fans have no fear there are some egg features in there.) Would you add any more places to Poppy’s list?

Bonfire Night 2015 – Whilst I’m reluctant to start thinking about Christmas (despite the cards and advent calendars arriving in stores this week!), I am happy to start planning where I’m going to spend Bonfire Night and this link is Timeout’s comprehensive London List. I can’t wait to pull on my winter woolies, sip my first mulled wine of the season and munch on a hot dog in the crisp outdoors.

The London Underground Rent Map – I’m not sure why but I’ll always click on links mentioning an alternative London Underground map. As I’m also becoming a bit obsessive about the London property market (is it a 30s thing?!) when Timeout London shared this map I was clicking before thinking.

And that’s it for this week. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!!

I need to see a blog post on your white water rafting adventure – especially after seeing your photos on Instagram! My husband really wants to do it but I’m too scared …
