Chanel, to me, is the luxurious face of Parisian style. A label I may never own and a style I will always look up to in my best breton top. I loved stepping into the world of Coco Chanel through the glossy Hollywood eyes of ‘Coco Before Chanel’ and so when I heard about ‘The Little Black Jacket’ exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery, the opening Saturday was in my diary. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to see the iconic Chanel jacket photographed by the label’s infamous designer, styled by former Vogue Paris editor Carine Roitfield, for free!
I can’t deny that the fact many of the 113 portraits include famous faces, styled to reflect their personality and the versatility of the label, also got my attention.
So last weekend arrived and I was ready to admire some French style. You’re allowed to take pictures in the gallery so I snapped a few so I could admire them later on. Here are my favourites, with a sneak peak of the Saatchi Gallery, for those who fancy getting a little flavour of the exhibition.
Vanessa Paradis – for beautiful hair and enviable French style
Joshua Jackson – one half of the most stylish Hollywood couple.
A little red, white and blue homage to the UK perhaps?
Carine Roitfield – looking eerily like Coco herself.
Chanel does urban.
Clemence Poesy – love the drama of this shot.
We got there for about 11am and it was reasonably quiet, the numbers definitely increased the longer we looked around but it was still a relaxing start to the weekend.
I really enjoyed the exhibition, take the Chanel glamour away from it, and you’re also getting a lesson in how to wear your favourite jacket in 100 different ways.
Have you seen the exhibition yet or are planning to go?
The exhibition is on until 4 November so make sure you put if you like what you see get it in the diary quick!
