Sunny strolls in the Flower Garden, Greenwich Park

Remember that weekend about a month ago when we enjoyed a rare 30 degree summer’s day? Seems like a long time ago now as the rain washes down our windows today, but as autumn creeps in and hopefully some sunny and colourful autumnal days head our way I couldn’t resist sharing a lovely little part of Greenwich Park I discovered – the Flower Garden.

All those weeks back, as the sun dropped and the day cooled, me and my sister thought we’d head to Greenwich Park. As a London 2012 venue most of the park was closed off to visitors but my sister’s a local and a frequent visitor so we hunted out the Flower Garden. In the sunshine the rest of the park fills up with families, picnics and ball games, but the Flower Garden is a more peaceful space.

The noise is a notch lower and you can wander around the paths in peace…

And enjoy the garden’s pretty flowers…

You can then rest on a bench and enjoy the sun for a while…

Or lounge in the grass and relax…

I checked out the Park’s map on the Royal Parks website and it looks like we missed out on the lake and a Deer Park which I think would be a great little addition to an autumnal stroll. On top of the obligatory view of the city near Greenwich Mean Time of course!

Don’t you think the Flower Garden is going to look great when the oncoming season’s warm colours come through? I love a good walk through crunchy leaves so I’ll be making excuses to head back and check it out!

It doesn’t seem to be labelled but if you fancy it you’ll find it is the area of the bottom right-hand corner of this map.

Do you have a favourite park for autumnal strolls?
