City reads: London Style Guide by Saska Graville

There are A LOT of London guide books out there but most of them cater for tourists, so my city finds are often from recommendations of friends and well-travelled Londoners on Twitter.  Then I spotted the London Style Guide over on Liberty London Girl , as a blogger who has proven her style status and seems to keep talented journalists amongst her friends I had a hunch it could be pretty interesting and I was over on Amazon finding out more.

With this as its opening description:

“This book takes you on a journey to the heart and soul of London, revealing the hidden and stylish places that make this city so incredibly unique and eclectic.”

I knew I had to have it and that I’d get good value for money for the £8.50 Amazon wanted from my purse (I’m afraid it looks like its growing popularity has pushed this up to £10.19 but still a bargain all the same!).

I excitedly flicked through it when it arrived in the post the other Monday and loved how it was broken down and presented.  It focuses on the areas away from the tourist traps, taking you into the essence of what makes London such a great city to live in.

Each page is covered with well chosen images which really give you a feel for the places being suggested, making it an enjoyable book to just flick through even if you haven’t got time to read it. When you have got time to have a good browse, you’ll find so many places to eat, sleep and shop you could probably plan out the rest of your summer.

Thrown into the mix are a few interviews with established Londoners, nicely breaking up the book and drawing you into the “heart and soul” of the city.

It was great to find a few places in there which I’ve already been to like Drink, Shop, Do and Purl but there were plenty more I haven’t and I’ll definitely be trying many of them out this summer.

It certainly made deciding what to do this weekend easy, so look out for my first London Style Guide recommendation this week!

If you love exploring London either as a resident or visitor, get this book! It’d also make a great present for someone who loves city life or is moving down here soon.
