Festival fun at Hackney Weekend

Festival season has begun! Giving us great live music to watch and plenty of festival fashion to enjoy. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a ticket to Radio 1’s Hackney weekend, getting value for money from my Hackney council tax and a fun day out just a few stops away from the flat. Festivals are all about finding new music, enjoying your favourites and singing along with the crowds so I thought I’d round-up the highlights to get you excited about the festivals coming up!

Festival tents, I love them, they keep in all the sound and atmosphere it’s hard not to enjoy what you’re listening to.  This makes them great for DJs and DeadMau5 was definitely an act to absorb. Dance music is great for energy and his set gave out plenty of that with some great stage lights to top it. I certainly left this act with a buzz for the rest of the day.

We returned for another dance fix towards the end of the night to see Swedish House Mafia, sad to hear today they’re splitting up as I was keen to see a bit more of them!

From the tents to the crowd pleasers, Example has to be my favourite performance for crowd atmosphere.

Well known songs like ‘Changed the way you kissed me’ had the crowd jumping (with arms around each other) and singing along at the top of their voices. So much fun!

You can’t beat a proper sing along and at festivals the music and crowd singing is so loud you can sing your heart out and no one can hear your wailing. Cue Leona Lewis, with songs like ‘Bleeding Love’ and ‘Run’ you can enjoy the guilty pleasure of attempting to sing along to her powerful voice without your neighbour hearing you.

A former Hackney resident and a Hackney choir it was an apt act for the event!

Ed Sheeran managed to achieve both crowd involvement and sing along pleasure at a lower tempo to Example but his performance definitely made me think about checking out his album soon, perfect Sunday sounds.

It’s great when you find new music at festivals and I definitely enjoyed Jessie Ware.  She had some great soulful tracks but what do you think of her upbeat single ‘110%’?

All in all it was a great day and a brilliant start to the London 2012 Festival! If you fancy seeing more of the live acts from the whole weekend, make sure you check out BBC iPlayer.

Which festivals are you heading to this summer? Who are you looking forward to seeing?

You had a really great spot there to watch the acts 🙂
I wish I was going to a festival this year. Sadly, I’ll have to leave it ’til next year. Anyone say Glastonbury 2013…Rolling Stones headlining? Watch this space!

That’s my only festival sadly! I am tempted to sign up to Glastonbury for 2013, but there are so many festivals to try out! Hard to decide whether to return!
