Last Friday I celebrated a friend’s birthday with some cocktails at Barrio Central. It was a great night in a vibrant bar (as you’ll see from the pictures), I thought their description summed it up pretty well:
“Barrio Central is a cocktail bar, kitchen and basement club located in the heart of London’s Soho, minutes from Oxford Circus. A clash of Latin cities, cultures and quarters, with a warm and welcoming neighbourhood vibe, we have a passion for exquisite drinks, fresh cooking and great music.”
As you’d expect their cocktail menu has a Latin American theme, there’s plenty of exciting and unusual options to choose from but if you fancy the familiar they also do the likes of mojitos and caipirinhas. If you get there early enough you’ll make Happy Hour (Mon – Thurs 3pm – 8pm, Fri & Sat up to 7pm) where a selection of cocktails are just £4.50.
Unlike previous cocktail hours, I didn’t fancy too much experimentation this time and stuck to mojitos and caipirinhas, which seemed to blend quite nicely with the colourful decor.
As the night went on and the cocktails were flowing, the dance floor filled and the music got lively, being in a basement surrounded by latin decor it would have been pretty easy to pretend you were in another country. But if you don’t fancy the basement noise there’s an upstairs area which seemed more suited for grabbing some food and a quieter drink.
I’ve been to another of their bars, Barrio North, and both have a fun atmosphere for a Friday or Saturday night. On both occasions tables have been booked so if you’re planning to take a group of people with you I’d recommend getting organised and making that booking!
Have you been to any of the Barrio bars? What did you think?
