City eats: Navajo Joe, Covent Garden

I’ve always been intrigued about the food at Navajo Joe, Covent Garden. I love Mexican food and when I’ve popped in for cocktails either at the restaurant bar or the basement bar, Joe Below, the smell of their food always made my mouth water. So it was an easy choice when I was looking for somewhere to get a bite to eat before a trip to the cinema this week.

The restaurant’s decor is true to its Native American name, with colourful tribal print seats, natural wood, dim lighting and wall prints in keeping to the theme. However, it comes with a modern twist as it blends in with a long marble bar and is overshadowed by a glass mezzanine level.

As for the food, Navajo Joe have a great offer on toptable at the moment – starter, main and a mojito for just £16.95! A respectable saving of about £10.

Under the offer, you are limited to a set menu but with the Mexican favourites of nachos and fajitas, you can’t complain! We both went for barbecue chicken wings, messy but a good portion size, followed by fajitas which were delicious! Overall I thought it was great value for money, I don’t think my dimly lit photos below quite do the meal justice. If you visit without an offer, starters average at about £5 and mains start at about £12, they also offer dessert for about £4.

The atmosphere was just right for a mid week meal, busy but not too full. The service was pretty good too, in my books if you don’t notice how long you’ve been waiting for your meal and you have a pleasant experience it’s good. I think it would be a great place for a meal for two or a group, and you can always end your evening with cocktails in the restaurants vibrant basement bar.

If you’ve been for a meal or drinks there it’d be great to hear your views! And also any meal recommendations for another visit!
